MARCH 2012
Word has it they've shared the bill before at some major blues festivals, so a jam is bound to break out. I'll have my harps loaded and ready to jump in.
Saturday the 3rd is gonna be about food. We're going to have one of my all-time favorite Cajun dishes, crawfish stew. Don't miss it! We'll be watching the Carolina/Duke game.
Thursday night, the 8th, we'll be at the Durham Armory to support one of our charities, EmptyBowls. We'll be preparing soup for the guests, and it's also a competition. I'm doing Creole Tomato Bisque with garlic croutons, and there are many other great restaurants dishing soup, so check it out. It's for a great cause, and sponsored by Urban Ministries. Friday the 9th is our second Friday Night Fish Fry. And we'll be bluesin it all night with Lenny Terenzi, and a bunch of cool pickers. Then on Saturday, Leslie Land brings the Chicken Fried Blues band back for some finger lickin' action. It'll be smokin' hot.
Me and the Wicked Mojo's will be back on Friday the 16th after a Florida road trip that has us at the Bonita Springs Blues Festival on Saturday the 10th. We'll be on the bill with Tinsley Ellis, Magic Slim and the Tear Drops, and lots of other great acts. If you're down in that part of Florida, come on in. We'll also be doing a blue Monday at Aces in Bradenton, with one of our Roadhouse favorites, Damon Fowler.
For St. Patrick's Day, we've got a hot double bill starting at 9pm, with local long time guitar slinging favorite, Bill Lyerly. Bill now lives in Barcelona, Spain, and is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his band here. Headlining that night will be the legendary Nigh Hawks, who've been in business for 40 years. That's 70 years playing experience between them, and you throw me in there, and it's….. Never mind. It's a lot of years.
Friday the 23rd we have a private party here after 9pm, so get in early for dinner that night. Big Momma E and the Cool are back that Saturday, with several special guests, so it will be a killer show.
Friday the 30th, we have another legend here, my good buddy, Bobby Radcliffe. Bobby lived with Magic Sam in Chicago back in the 60's, and was his protégé. He's lived in Greenwich Village for 35 years, and plays regularly with Magic Dick, who comes through NYC. We cut a live CD a number of years ago, so I know it's gonna be a great reunion. I'll just say this, he's the best! Don't miss it!
We finish the month on Saturday with a triangle favorite, Big Rick & the Bombers. Soul singing Lynette Barber will be hitting it with them, so it's got to be a funky good time. So as you see, March is coming and going with the lion. We'll save the lamb for Easter.
Thanks for your continued enjoyment of Papa Mojo's Roadhouse. Let me know if you can think of anything (legal) I can do to make it more enjoyable. Oh, and please vote for us in the Indy "Best Of" competition. It closes April 15, and we're in several categories.
Later Gator,
