Best Dish Award
Well, we didn’t get 1st place, but Chef Melton definitely got recognized and was 2nd runner up for the 2009 NC Best Dish competition. Receiving the 3rd place award out of 10 finalists in the Casual Dining category is still an honor worth mentioning! The 3 top winners will receive their awards in October at the NC State Fair. Not only that - a special event has been planned to bring all the award-winning chefs together on Sept 27 to celebrate the bounty of their creativity ......... stay tuned for more info.
Durham Magazine
We’re so pleased that Durham Magazine chose to feature Papa Mojo’s in “The DISH” section of their magazine last month - what a nice surprise for us! If you didn't catch the feature, you can read it here: (downloadable PDF)
Mid-Week @ the Roadhouse
If you haven’t been down to Papa Mojo’s for Tuesday or Wednesday nights, you’re missing some worthy musical entertainment! We’re pleased to be hosting the jazz trio of Brevan Hampden, Al Strong, and Mark Wells on Tuesday nights (8:00-10:00pm). And on Wednesdays, Brett Chambers and the Usual Suspects host our ever-popular Open-Mic Nites (8:00-10:00pm). Come on down & join the fun.

ONE STAGE – FOUR HARMONICA VETERANS –ONE NIGHT
All four of these veteran musicians have established themselves as leaders in their respective circuits over the past 3 decades -- and each of them, at one time or another, has served as an endorsee of Hohner Harmonicas! These heavyweights are ready to pull out all the stops (and harmonicas!) and let it all out for an evening on stage together.

Manhattan Transfer meets Monty Python.

Humor and harmony unite in the sound of The Bobs, a four-member a cappella group that has garnered a healthy cult following in the U.S. and Europe in the 28 years they've been touring and recording. It's clear that the group never kept all its marbles in one box from the get-go - making their ongoing ability to surprise and delight audiences a rare treasure indeed. Known for their incredible live shows and description-defying original material, the twin keys to the group's creative safe deposit box are unflagging dedication to vocal excellence and utter disregard for everything else.

--And don’t think we’re not excited about the bands we’ve got on the roster for this month! We’re celebrating Labor Day Weekend with two favorite bands: the Swang Brothers on Friday and Tad Walters Band on Saturday (we will also have some drink specials: $1.50 drafts - $4 well drinks)
--Also returning to the Roadhouse later in the month are two swingin’ dance bands: Rebecca & the HiTones on Sept. 19 and Too Much Fun on Sept. 25.
--For that retro-feeling, consider the band Wheels of Fire on Sept. 11 (known for skillfully delivering 60’s & 70’s blues & rock tributes), and Killer Filler on Sept. 18 (known for their dynamic twang & penchants for channeling 1960s Memphis soul, exotica, and go-go themes).
As always, you can read up on all of these bands (and link to their web sites) from our music schedule listing.

Those Mamou Playboys
Our favorite summer memory was the night Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys came to town -- what a treat it was! We took out the tables to clear the floor, and when Steve & his band filled the house with his fine traditional Cajun Music, our whole restaurant became the dance floor!! It was like being right down there in the Bayou on a warm summer night with dancers endlessly circling the room. Special thanks to Mike & Kathy Molesky and TRACZA (Triangle Area Cajun/Zydeco Assoc.) for making this event such a success!
